Annual Concert Series Presents
Karl Roth in
Concert
Friday,
September 2nd, 2011 - the Fifth Annual Summer Concert Series
will be presented
at Rock Island Resort.
This year we are proud to have
Karl Roth
of Calgary, returning. At his last concert the audience walked away
stunned and amazed. This year he brings a slightly different mix
of musicians. Award winning guitarist Dave Hamilton is returning
and will be joined by bass player Skip Cutz from Saskatoon.

Karl Roth
– The Rock Island Gazebo will be swingin'! With the growling vocals
of the big bear on violin, and the virtuosic guitar of Dave Hamilton
and Skip Cutz on bass. With
three recordings under his belt including his debut Everybody Wants
to Be A Cat (1997) featuring its standout title track; the 1998
best-seller Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas; and Almost Behavin' (2001), an elegant selection of swing jazz jewels
and will be followed up by Karl’s fourth CD. Hear a preview at this show.
Karl’s
charismatic performances feature his dark, rich voice, distinctive
improvised violin style, and a tight swingin’ sound that has been
described as a “blend between Leon Redbone and Stephane Grapelli
with a hint of Barry White”. Blending a mixture of R&b, blues and
jazz favourites with several ‘oddball’ treasures, the result has
captured the hearts of audiences at major festivals across Canada.
